Macronutrients are the energy-producing nutrients that we require in bigger amounts: fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Micronutrients, which mostly consist of vitamins and minerals, are similarly necessary but only consumed in trace amounts. Micronutrients are usually consumed in conjunction with macronutrients.
