Yoga Nidra
What you'll learn
There are no physical elements to Yoga Nidra. Ensure you are in a comfortable space with pillows around you before starting. Nidra is an ancient practice dating back thousands of years that can be seen as a state of being, where we are in the nothing-ness of consciousness. Nidra has also been referred to as ‘sleep yoga’, but has actually been found to be much more profound than simply taking a nap, studies have shown that just 30 mins of nidra is = to 48 hours of sleep. This is because the practice lets you enter deep into the multifaceted layers of your body that most sleeps don’t reach. In a world where rest is demonised and business is glorified, it can be hard to escape the feelings that in order to be productive you must be achieving something. In nidra we allow the body to rest and actually heal on a somatic and cellular level, shifting the nervous system into the parasympathetic and allowing the brain to fall deep through states of consciousness into the delta brain wave state, where deep rest really happens and where the human growth hormone is actually created. This rest is the medicine you need in this moment. After the session there will be some time to share or journal.
