Marilyn Newbury

Your teacher

Mrs. Newbury has taught private piano, voice and theory, directed over twenty musicals and plays, and taught in K - 12 school classrooms. She has a university degree in music education and performance as well two piano pedagogy diplomas, but the road to success was not easy. Marilyn started lessons with her mom-teacher when she was four years old. At one lesson, Marilyn could not remember what her mom had taught her the day before, causing Marilyn's mother to discontinue the teaching until Marilyn was older. Lessons resumed when Marilyn turned five. She begged to quit lessons as she just wanted to play - not practise, but her parents would not let her quit. It took about eight years of lessons before Marilyn secretly admitted to herself that she perhaps would continue studying piano even if her parents did not insist on her taking lessons. Mrs. Newbury also knows that every student learns in a different way and so endeavours to move ahead at a pace that ensures mastery of concepts while striving for a balance of challenge and comfort. While Marilyn has been a hobbyist writer for most of her life, she has recently started to publish her writing on her website at https://www.marilynnewbury.com.
