During this live cooking show (April 10 at 5PM BST/7 PM EST) you will bake the perfect profiteroles out of choux buns. Nancy Birtwhistle will demonstrate how to make a perfect choux pastry dough. Also known as pȃte à choux, the choux buns is a french pastry that’s filled with a delicious Chantilly cream and drizzled with dark chocolate making light and crisp irresistible profiteroles. What does choux mean in baking? Choux is French for cabbage. They’re called that because the shape of the buns looks like a cabbage. As they bake in the oven they take on a light and crispy texture and look like mini cabbages. Leave it to the french to have the cutest names for pastries. Are choux buns the same as cream puffs or profiteroles? They are related but not exactly the same thing. Choux buns are the type of dough or pastry that the desert is made from. Once you take the choux buns and fill them with cream it becomes a profiterole or cream puff. 100g salted butter
10g caster sugar
1 tsp salt
150g Plain flour sifted
3 eggs beaten
400ml Double / Heavy Cream
1 tbsp Icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
150g Dark Chocolate
Hand-held electric whisk
3 mixing bowls – 1 large, 1 medium, 1 small
2 piping bags with a star nozzle and pointed filling nozzle
Water spray bottle
2 baking sheets lined with reusable baking parchment
