Options 101: Intro to Stock Options
What you'll learn
***If you want to request a special time, send me a message for a one-on-one*** This one hour interactive workshop will cover the basics of equity options, exploring the utility of calls and puts as individual trade strategies or as a complement to existing investments. By the end of this workshop, participants may be able to confidently understand what it means to trade options from (1) reading option quotes from an options chain, to (2) establishing option positions in a real or simulated portfolio, and (3) option value relative to stock price, time value, volatility and other forces. We will discuss the mechanics of calls and puts, order types, and managing long and short positions. In addition, we will review basic strategies such as married puts, covered calls, cash-secured puts, long calls and straddles. A key offering of this workshop is its focus on 'defined risk' relative to 'undefined risk', with a clear explanation of how to avoid undefined risk. Our emphasis will be on increasing financial literacy while strongly discouraging disproportionate risk. Questions are encouraged throughout the presentation. After the presentation, attendees are invited to present lingering questions during a complementary one-hour Q&A session. I will offer to share real-world examples from my active option positions and recent trade history to illustrate how options may be used to protect positions and more safely leverage and diversify into larger investments without tying up as much capital. I will also review active management of common options strategies to maximize returns, with my own real trades. Attendees will be provided the following resources: • Dan’s cheat sheet explaining core concepts of options with diagrams and mnemonics • Invitation to join our Slack & Discord workspaces which provide direct contact with your teacher to address follow up questions among a community of learners • Free one-on-one follow up tutoring session for 15-minutes • Links to extra learning resources • Official resource “Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options” by The OCC ***Special Offer*** Free Classes if you help me style up my class images and advertisements. If you are a graphic designer or have a talent for creating advertisements, get in touch! I will offer three free 1-hour sessions.
