Prepping 16-32 bar cuts of songs for auditions

What you'll learn

Each student will sing a cut (16-32 bars, or about 30 seconds to a minute) memorised piece of music. Students are free to choose music from any time period as long as it is from a musical, revue, or similar. Each student will receive feedback and redirects on their piece. Time permitting, there may be feedback from other students as well. We will focus on really telling the story of the piece through song. I will help students work towards making their piece audition ready. We will talk about what makes a good audition piece, how to pick something appropriate for a specific audition or for the specific actor.

Note: I am NOT concerned with matching songs to gender. Please sing something you are comfortable singing, that is in your range, that you want to work on (generally with the goal of using it for auditions, but even if you don't have a specific audition coming up, you're totally welcome here.) Please sing with a track of some kind, not a cappella.

This course is for music theatre pieces only; I may teach one focused on other musical styles in the future though so stay tuned!
